The Russell and Ann Gerdin American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, offering 28 rooms for patients and caregivers, is now accepting lodging requests.
This home away from home provides free, non-medical lodging for cancer patients and their caregivers and convenient access to The University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at UI Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City VA Medical Center, and Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Any person age 18 and older who has been diagnosed with cancer and is actively receiving outpatient cancer treatment in Iowa City, is eligible to stay at the Hope Lodge on a first come first served basis. For more information or referrals, contact the Hope Lodge at 319-248-5400.
Russell Gerdin, Chief Executive Officer of Heartland Express, Inc. in Coralville, and a cancer survivor, donated $4 million toward construction of the facility.
The facility, located next to Carver-Hawkeye Arena and the Ronald McDonald House, is owned and operated by the American Cancer Society. The American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by saving lives, diminishing suffering and preventing cancer through research, education, advocacy and service. |
