UI Campus Is Smoke-free

Effective July 1, 2008, The University of Iowa is a smoke-free campus—all University-owned buildings, University-owned or -leased vehicles, and on all University grounds including recreational facilities, athletic facilities, parking lots, and enclosed parking facilities. UI Hospitals and Clinics and the Health Sciences Campus were designated non-smoking areas in 2006 and 2007 respectively and will continue to be smoke-free.

All faculty, staff, students, and UI Hospitals and Clinics patients and visitors are expected to comply with the Iowa Smoke-free Air Act and refrain from smoking on University property.

On the west campus, the no-smoking ban is enforced in:

  • Kinnick Stadium and the University grounds surrounding the stadium
  • Parking structures and parking lots on University property. Iowa law identifies The University of Iowa as "school grounds" and prohibits individuals from smoking in parked cars on school grounds.
