University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics remains open. However, due to flood conditions in the surrounding area, here is key information for our patients, families, and visitors, and faculty and staff:
Patients and Visitors
University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics returned to normal operations on Wednesday, June 18. Outpatient clinics are open for all regular clinic appointments from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday. If you have any questions about a clinic appointment, please call the number on your appointment letter or the numbers on our website: www.uihealthcare.com/appts/index.html . Operating rooms and the Ambulatory Surgery Center are also back to normal schedules.
Getting here. While some roads have re-opened, others remain closed, including a primary access on Highway 6 and First Avenue in Coralville. Patients, family members and visitors are still encouraged to use the Melrose Avenue exit off Highway 218 and south of Interstate 80.
The Iowa DOT has a new toll-free phone number to assist anyone in planning a route into the Iowa City/Coralville area. Call 866-452-8510 to speak with a DOT representative.
You also may call the Flood Information Line at 319-384-6203 or toll-free at 800-868-8442, or call UI Health Access at 319-384-8442 or 800-777-8442.
We appreciate your patience as we have continued to adjust our operations during this flood emergency.
Faculty and Staff
UI Hospitals and Clinics returned to full operations on June 18. All staff members who can do so safely should continue to report to work. Please talk with your supervisor about your report to work time as we work together to stagger shift start and stop times to relieve traffic congestion for our patients and visitors.
Other steps that faculty and staff can take to ease congestion on Melrose Avenue:
Park in the Hawkeye Commuter Lot, where Cambus will provide service from 5:10 a.m. to midnight through Friday, June 20. Staff members who do not have an assigned lot can park in this lot, and will not be ticketed.
Staff members who choose to continue to park in Carver-Hawkeye, Dentistry, Ramp 3, Ramp 1, Kinnick (Lot 43), and the Newton Road Ramp are asked to turn into the Finkbine Access Road off Melrose and proceed through to Hawkins Drive to access their lots.
Carpooling, public transportation, biking or walking are also good alternatives.
Emergency housing-- Hillcrest Residence Hall remains available for staff to use through Thursday night, June 19, if they are unable to return home due to flooding. Please call 335-9168, which will connect you to the Hillcrest Desk to reserve space.
