UI Imaging Specialists Named in
Industry Magazine's Top 10


Three imaging experts at UI Hospitals and Clinics and the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine have been voted "best of the best" by their peers in a survey run by Medical Imaging, a leading imaging industry magazine.

Medical Imaging readers were asked to rank the industry's 10 best individuals or programs in 10 different categories based on factors including research, innovation and patient care and outcomes.

  • Laurie Fajardo, M.D., UI Hospitals and Clinics radiologist, professor, and head, UI Department of Radiology, was ranked second in the category for Women's Imaging Specialist.
  • John Buatti, M.D., UI Hospitals and Clinics oncologist, professor, and head, UI department of Radiation Oncology and professor of otolaryngology, was ranked ninth among radiation oncologists/cancer researchers.
  • Mark Madsen, Ph.D., professor, UI Department of Radiology and professor of physics and astronomy, UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, was tenth among nuclear physicist/nuclear medicine researchers.

Two other UI faculty members also were named runners-up in the survey:

David Bushnell, M.D., UI Hospitals and Clinics radiologist and professor, UI Department of Radiology, in the nuclear physicist/nuclear medicine researcher category John Chaloupka, M.D., UI Hospitals and Clinics interventional radiologist, professor, UI Department of Radiology, in the cardiovascular imager/cardiac catheterization director category.
