What is UI Health Care?
UI Health Care is the partnership between the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics--and the patient care, medical education, and research programs they provide.

Where is UI Hospitals and Clinics located?
UI Hospitals and Clinics is located on the west side of the Iowa River, in Iowa City, Iowa. The Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and Pharmacy; the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences; the Bowen Science building; the Center for Disabilities and Development; and the Medical Research Laboratories are located nearby.

About UI Hospitals and Clinics
UI Hospitals and Clinics is one of the largest university owned teaching hospitals in the nation, with more than 800 beds and more than 250 ambulatory care clinics. Consistently recognized as one of the best hospitals in the United States, it is Iowa's only comprehensive, tertiary-level health care center.

In addition to serving patients requiring primary or routine health care, UI Health Care serves patients requiring care from highly trained specialists using sophisticated medical technology.

UI Hospitals and Clinics employs more than 600 staff physicians and dentists, more than 500 residents and fellows, more than 1,500 professional nurses, and 4,800 other professional and support staff in 16 medical specialties: anesthesia, dermatology, family practice, internal medicine, neurology, psychiatry, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, oral surgery, orthopedics, otolaryngology, pathology, pediatrics, radiology, surgery, and urology. Each department has its own inpatient and outpatient sections and special diagnostic areas.

UI Hospitals and Clinics is the primary clinical teaching base for the University of Iowa's health science educational programs. These programs include dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, physician assistant, pediatric nurse practitioner, orthopedic assistant, physical therapy, undergraduate medicine, pastoral study, nuclear medicine, medical and x-ray technology, and hospital and health science administration. UI Hospitals and Clinics also serves as a clinical teaching base for residents and fellow physicians in advanced specialty training in oral surgery, dietetics, pharmacy, and all disciplines of medicine.
