The division provides state-of-the-art diagnostic and management support of infants, children and young adults with both congenital and acquired heart disease.

Services

Clinical:

  • Congenital heart disease in children and adults
  • Acquired heart disease (e.g., cardiomyopathies, Kawasaki disease, etc.)
  • Cardiac arrhythmias
  • Adolescent Cardiology
  • Blood lipid disorders
  • Outreach clinical activities

Diagnostic:

  • Comprehensive assessment of murmurs
  • Evaluation and managemnt of the cyanotic newborn
  • ECG interpretation (resting, ambulatory, exercise and off-site)
  • Arrhythmia evaluation and management
  • Echocardiography (fetal, transthoracic, transesophageal, remote transmission via teleconference)
  • Diagnostic cardiac catheterization
  • Interventional catheterization (balloon angioplasty, intravascular stents, coil occlusion)
  • Radiofrequency ablation of arrhythmias
  • Pacemaker management
  • Surgical management of congenital heart lesions
  • Cardiac transplantation
  • Evaluation and management of families with premature coronary heart disease

Research:

  • Research on the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias in children and congenital heart disease patients
  • Assessment and management of children and congenital heart disease patients who are at risk for or have had a sudden cardiac arrest
  • Developmental programming of adult cardiovascular disease
  • Role of cholesterol and blood presure as coronary risk factors
  • Mechanisms of cardiac hypertrophy
  • Genetic basis of congenital heart disease
  • Noninvasive vascular assessment of the early atherosclerotic process (computed tomography), carotid ultrasound and brachial reactivity)
  • Development changes in cardiac metabolism
  • Impact of telemedicine on the management of children with congenital heart disease
  • Multicenter drug trials
