Kaposi’s sarcoma is seen as skin lesions (sores). There are several types of Kaposi’s sarcoma based on the cause. One type is found primarily in Mediterranean males and males of Ashkenazi origin. This type is extremely rare. A more frequent type seen now is caused by altered immune system, either by medicines after an organ transplant or by infections with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The are three groups of Kaposi’s sarcoma, determined by the appearance of the cells under a microscope.
